Such a high profile murder at this critical juncture only serves the propaganda machine of the LTTE. However, it's hard for me to have any sympathy for the man. He only got into politics further his business activities. He was one of the most corrupt ministers of the short-lived UNF government. Maheswaran openly supported LTTE's terrorism, and had consistently broken party ranks to vote against the national interest. He was well known for openly proposing in a party meeting to bribe and "gahala ganna" (beat up and bring back) the UNP dissidents.

One of his ships was found to be transporting aircraft parts for the LTTE, but no action was taken by the government. He was known to be closely associated with the Colombo underworld and other corrupt politicians from both major parties.

As to be expected, he will be glorified in his obituary as a great statesman and a human rights champion.

I agree with most of what you said.

No matter how much pro-tiger he was, we can't accpet killing of any person in the mainstream democratic politics. Tamil Selvan's death is acceptable, cuz he was purely a terrorist. But, it is not a good thing (by any one; government, EPDP, Karuna or who ever) to kill the pro-tiger politicians/ activitsts in the democratic mainstream. It will further enrich the Tiger propeganda mechanism.

i guess any tamil who support LTTE as well as oppose LTTE should expect this result. if any tamil does not want this fate, then keep the fcuking mouth shut and live with us without provoking anyone.. if wants to get shot, then keep talking and fuel more problems, which will eventually help in assuring the bullet..that's what happened to this guy..

tamil mp's in sri lanka think that getting to a stage or in parliament, just talking against or for ltte will make them great tamil leaders. these guys have not done anything to tamil people other than talking..
so if you are a type of sri lankan bogger who find that i have not started a sentence with a capital letter.. then just fcuk-ff..
